Safer Internet Day 2010 - 9th Febuary
Think B4 U Post!

European Safer Internet Day (SID) is supported by countries throughout Europe and during the week, a range of activities will be taking place across the continent to help protect young people online. The theme for SID10 is ‘Think Before You Post’ and we hope to make the whole week (from Monday 8th February – Friday 12th February 2010) a week of action at Feversham College.

The internet is a very exciting and great resource which offers educational materials, email; blogging; messaging and chat - but do you really know who you're talking to and how to stay safe?

Here are a few pointers to consider when using the internet:

  • Never tell a stranger your email, telephone number, mobile or address.
  • Don't give out details about your school or college.
  • Never e-mail a photo of yourself or arrange to meet someone by yourself from the internet.
  • Keep your A/S/L (Age/Sex/Location) secret - don't say where you live, just give the region if you’re asked.
  • Don't believe everything you read - sometimes people don't tell the truth.
  • Change your email address if you think a stranger knows it.
  • Tell your parents, carers or teacher if you're worried about something or someone from the internet.

Anti Bullying Week 16th - 20th November 2009

Our school took part in Anti Bullying Week to support a strong stance against all forms of bullying. This years Anti Bullying week campaign was: “Stay safe in cyber space.”

What is Cyberbullying?
Cyberbullying is when a child or teen is tormented, threatened, harassed, humiliated, embarrassed or otherwise targeted by another child or teen using the Internet, interactive and digital technologies or mobile phones.

Different types of Cyberbullying:

      • Instant messaging
      • Stealing passwords
      • Blogs (online jounal
      • Web sites
      • Sending pictures through email
      • Internet polling
      • Interactive games
      • Sending malicious codes
      • Sending junk emails and IMs
      • Impersonation

How to stop cyberbullying:

      • Respect each other.
      • Cyberbullying is just like physical bullying and you need to take a stand TOGETHER
      • ‘Take 5!’ – 5min break before you respond to any sort of comment
      • Try different methods of calming down – yoga/deep breathing/playing sport…anything to take your mind off it all.
      • Silence is unacceptable when others you know are being hurt.
      • The best way of retaliating to comments
          • reporting abuse through various websites
          • blocking users on IM or their social networking sites
          • telling an adult
          • printing out evidence

If you are targeted by a bully
      STOP!
Don’t do anything. Take 5! to calm down
      BLOCK!
Block the cyberbully or limit all communications to those on your friends list
      TELL!
Tell a trusted adult, you don’t have to face this alone
