ICT

 

ICT Department

The department is well equipped with 3 specialist ICT suites each with 30 machines, interactive whiteboard and printing and scanning facilities. There is a wide selection of software available including Microsoft Office 2003 and CorelDRAW Graphics Suite 12. In addition, students have access to the Macromedia Suite which incorporates Fireworks, Freehand, Flash and Dreamweaver software.

Key Stage 3 ICT

ICT enables pupils to enhance their skills in preparation for the real world of work and everyday activities, whereby technology is rapidly evolving. Pupils use ICT tools to find, explore, analyse, exchange, and present information responsibly, in a unique way and without bias. They learn how to use and manipulate ICT and draw experiences from a wide range of people, communities, and cultures. ICT promotes use of initiative, independent and experiential learning, with students being able to make informed judgements and consider the implications of the use of ICT.

Year 7 have one lesson per week, plus homework.
Year 8 have two lessons per week, plus homework.
Year 9 have two lessons per week, plus homework and have the option of studying towards the OCR National First Award in ICT.

 Key Stage 4 ICT

Pupils may choose to study for the BTEC First Diploma / Certificate for ICT Practitioners. This 2 year course enables pupils to develop skills, knowledge and understanding of computers in the context of the real world of work, gain an appreciation of the role ICT plays in society and develop an ability to use a wide range of software packages.

The course is made up of 6 units for the Diploma or 3 units if studying for the Certificate. Each unit is assessed through coursework assignments (portfolio work). There are no externally assessed examinations.

The final year this course will run is September 2009-2010. The OCR National in ICT will be offered as an option choice in years 10 & 11

BTEC First Diploma ICT Practitioners BROCHURE

The OCR National in ICT will be available from September 2009, enabling students to ‘top up’ the work which they have begun in year 9. It is flexible skills based course, providing the opportunity for students to gain the equivalent of 2,3 or 4 GCSE’s (at grades A-C); depending on the number of units completed.
