Design and
Technology is taught at KS3 through Textiles, Food and Resistant
Materials and is broken down as follows:
Curriculum
Yr7: Resistant materials/Food
Yr8: Resistant materials/Textiles
Yr9: Textiles/Food
Each class is taught for 12 periods (1 hour 30 minutes each)
per week. The students are taught half of the year in one area
and half in the other area. Designing activities are intended
to stimulate creativity, innovation and imagination. Students
will design and make a number of products through out the Key
Stages including a fabric printed book cover, T-shirt, Biscuits,
bread products and healthy drinks, a piece of jewellery and a
paper automater.
At KS4 students can choose to study GCSE Design and Technology.
In textiles surface pattern/decorations are explored and developed
using various techniques including silk painting, digital printing
and stencilling, free machine embroidery and computerised machine
embroidery. A variety of products are made from bags, wall hangings,
storage containers and prayer mats.
At KS5 students can chose to further their studies of Design
and Technology through A- Level Product Design. Fashion illustration,
the study of fashion designers, textiles science and marketing
are some of the areas students will study. Garments, interior
products and fashion accessories are some of the products that
students can design and make.
