To meet the requirements of the Data Protection Act 1998, schools need to issue a Fair Processing Notice to pupils and/or parents summarising the information held about pupils, why it is held, and the third parties to whom it may be passed on.
The fair processing notice needs to cover the provision of information to the Connexions services under the Learning and Skills Act 2000 and the rights of parents or pupils to opt out from this.
This 'combined' Fair Processing Notice sets out in general terms what the school, the DCSF and other bodies do with the data collected about pupils and saves these organistions sending seperate notices.
The suggested FPN for 2007-08 comes in three parts. This new format follows the design laid down by the Information Commissioner:
