HOLIDAYS IN TERM TIME & EXTENDED ABSENCE

The College follows the guidance from the DfEE concerning family holidays or extended leave during term time.

The College is committed to educational excellence and success, and has devised programmes of study which map out a structured path of learning for our students. Full attendance is a requisite for that success and any breaks in continuity will have a negative impact on the student.

It is recognised that a break of one month from College has the effect of putting back the attainment of a student by one term, due not only to the missed work, but also by the difficulties encountered on re-entry.

It is clear that the College cannot approve such a situation.

Family Holiday

Parents should not normally take students on holidays during term time.
However, each request for holiday absence will be considered individually.
An application form is available from the Pastoral Office.
Permission will not be granted automatically. For example, should there be poor attendance by the student or the request is for leave at examination periods, then the leave is unlikely to be approved.
If the length of the absence is approved it would be for one week only and in exceptional circumstances for two weeks maximum.

Extended Leave

This will be considered in the same way as a family holiday.
In exceptional circumstances, following advance warning, two weeks at the most will be approved.

Unauthorised Absence

Should a student be absent without prior notice or a student fails to return to College after the approved date, then the absence will be recorded as unauthorised.
The College will try to contact the family to find out the reason for this absence.
If there is no appropriate reason or it is not possible to make contact, then after a period of two weeks of unauthorised absence the student will be removed from the College roll and referred to the Education Social Work Service.

Anti-Bullying Policy

The College aims to foster a sense of sisterhood among students. Feversham College has a firm anti-bullying policy, which makes it clear to students that bullying is always unacceptable. Every student has the right to be safe and happy in the College, and to be protected. We will not allow the actions of one student to destroy the safety of another. Students will be reminded that every Muslim has responsibility to respect and care for others.

Encouragement to tell
we aim to make sure that students that are being bullied, or others who know about it, feel that they will be listened to and believed, and what action will be taken. Not telling protects the bully or bullies, and gives the message that they can continue, perhaps bullying others too.
To students
If you are being bullied, or you know that someone else is, please tell us straight away, and it will be dealt with. Not telling means the bully will carry on, probably with others too. We will have a responsibility to make sure that bullying is not allowed to continue in our College.
To parents
If you think your child may be being bullied, please let the tutor know straight away.
